Sam Mitchell: Resides in Whanganui.
Mitchells is known for painting in reverse on perspex,creating physiological portraits that integrate pop culture with historical content, through a feminist lens. Mitchell won the 2010 Paramount Art Award ,Wallace trust and has completed eight National/ International Artist residencies.
A Play in Clay will be an installation of the work undertaken while in the Artist Residency at A Gallery, Whanganui.
Mitchell was in residency for three months during 2026 and produced works exploring clay and all its many applications from painting on commercial bisque ware to hand building and sculpture.
