Tina Schurhammer is a Whanganui-based fibre artist.

Her background in herbal medicine, silk painting, batik, feltmaking and photography influences her work.
Since 2010, after attending a course at UCOL Summer School, Tina has been fascinated by the technique of Nuno-felting.

This wet-felting technique combines wool fibres and various textile materials to create felted cloth ("nuno" meaning "cloth" in Japanese).

Her current work primarily uses natural and dyed wool fibres and silk or cotton fabrics, which are often eco-printed or plant-dyed by her. Recently, she introduced the use of plant-based acrylic paints for fine lines, colour and texture on the fabrics. She is also experimenting with stitching.

Tina’s work is inspired by the natural world, which mirrors inner landscapes, dreams, and personal or universal patterns and symbols. Of particular importance to her is the plant kingdom and the relationships she forms with the world.
