Samantha Matthews is a contemporary fine art photographer and rose farmer. She was born in Whanganui, New Zealand in 1988 where she continues to live and work. Her practice is an ongoing exploration of the tensions between space, place and memory within the operation of photography. She holds a Master of Art and Design from Auckland University of Technology (2013) and uses her camera to investigate everyday environments in Aotearoa, pursuing to consider the unseen or familiar in a new way.
As assistant manager for family business Matthews Nurseries Ltd she is involved in all aspects of the diverse rose farm started by her grandparents in 1947, including the international award winning hybridizing programme established by her father Bob Matthews and development of the ‘My Rose Collection’ range and brand new rose cultivars.
Samantha is also represented as a stockroom artist at Space Studio and Gallery in Whanganui where an exclusive selection of limited edition prints and framed works are available for viewing and purchase.
