Williams graduated and received her Fine Arts Degree with Distinction in 2011 from Quay School of the Arts Whanganui. For the past 6 years she has been working on the establishment and management of the dynamic and successful gallery ‘Space’ and has regularly exhibited as an artist in her own right here and during this time within Whanganui in partnership with The Rayner Brothers Gallery.
Establishing Space shortly after graduating Williams saw a need for an independent gallery which could showcase the large pool of talented, established and emerging artists, working in Whanganui. Space for the past 6 years has endeavored to be a leading venue for exhibitions and prides itself in the way it has enabled and supported artists to promote their practices both locally and nationally via its website.
Artistically speaking, Williams’ drawing practice has also developed during her time running Space. Drawing what is around her, places and buildings that aesthetically please and often overlooked objects used in daily rituals and routes are always a huge inspiration for these works. Even though seemingly banal when drawn with care and attention a subtle and quiet beauty is revealed. Williams’ works on paper occasionally make their way into larger scale installations. Working with negative and positive space has been something she has become known for “It’s also about allowing the viewer to inject their own stories and memories into the images that is very important to me”.Mediums: Drawing, Drawing - Pen and/or ink, Drawing – Pencil, Mixed media materials, Painting – Watercolour
